Officer's Shako Plate 1831-44

The design of the plate for the bell-topped shako had to change when the 50th took on the title of The Queen's Own in 1831. The former Duke of Clarence acceded to the throne in 1830, on the death of his brother George IV. William IV was crowned in September 1831 and his wife, Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, became Queen and titular head of the regiment. The regiment was now a Royal regiment and changed it's facings from black to blue.
