Shako Badge, Officer 1869

The final form of the shako worn by the infantry had this badge, from 1869 to 1878. The number 55 is cut out of the centre as it was in the previous badge (1861-69). This time the star has been replaced by a laurel wreath, a device adopted by all the regiments. The 55th had the privilege of having the Chinese Dragon, in silver, below the garter.
