Officer's Belt Plate c1805

The Buffs were a silver laced regiment until the 1820s so the belt plate was also silver until then. We know from the British Military Library print of 1799 that the belt plate was rectangular with a scroll, dragon, crown and number 3 but a miniature c1805 shows a belt plate in this style. The dragon, motto and number 3 are all mounted on the oval plate. There is an example of a plate of similar design but engraved. Other ranks had a brass oval belt plate with just a crown and number 3.
