Hon Henry Parnell CB


The Honorable Henry Parnell, born on 10th July 1839, was the grandson of the Irish writer and Whig politician Sir Henry Brooke Parnell. He joined the Buffs in May 1855 and served in the Crimean War after the fall of Sebastopol. He commanded the 2nd Battalion for 5 years, most notably while they were in Zululand during the war of 1879. He commanded the Regimental District from 1888 to 1892 reaching the rank of General and becoming 4th Lord Congleton. He was married in 1885 to Elizabeth Dove. He died in Nov 1906.
