Dorsets in the Tirah

This contemporary photo of the 1st Dorsets shows how the regiment looked at the time of the Tirah expedition. All the infantry regiments wore khaki light weight service dress with cork, cloth covered helmets but the Dorsets sere issued with quilted helmet curtains that protected the back of the neck. They had Slade-Wallace equipment with square water bottles and haversacks for food. Their trousers were bound with khaki puttees. They were armed with Lee-Metford rifles.
