H E B Newenham


H E B Newenham was born in Dublin and educated at Haileybury School. He went to Sandhurst and joined the Royal Fusiliers in 1886 serving in South Africa where he was wounded. He commanded the 2nd Battalion at Gallipoli in April 1915 where he was severely wounded on the first day of the landing. Newenham was awarded the CB in 1916 for his leadership in that battle but he lost a leg as a result of the wound. He died aged 68 after a long illness on 17th Nov 1934, with the rank of Brigadier-General. He was Mayor of Lymington from 1924 to 1927.
