HMS Implacable

HMS Implacable was a 14 year old Royal Navy battleship which was used to transport the men of the 86th (Fusilier) Brigade from Tenedos to the Dardanelles. She was declared obsolete in 1909 but served in the Mediterranean throughout the First World War. She supported the landings on X Beach in April 1915 and remained in the area until May. She was armed with 12 inch and 6 inch guns which provided covering fire as the Royal Fusiliers landed on the beach. The boat in the foreground is crowded with soldiers but does not fit the description of the boats that were used for the landings. These were smaller boats that were towed by the ship and were rowed to the beach. The boat in the photo may have been used later on to transport stores and artillery to the shore.
