Grenadier Guards 1939

The equipment worn by the Guards was reduced in 1936 so that the ammunition pouches on the front of the waist-belt were removed, and the greatcoat was no longer carried. In it's place the cape was folded and strapped high on the back instead of rolled on the small of the back. The guard detail of 4 men and a lance-sergeant march with .303 rifles at the slope, and bayonets fixed. The rubbing of the rifle against the white blancoed strap must have caused some problems but the Guardsmen do not look unduly worried.

The two spectators are Lofty and Seppetoni, 9ft 2in and 2ft 4in respectively, who were a popular music hall act throughout the Thirties.
