Officer and Guardsmen 1952

This shows the difference between the greatcoats worn by officers and other ranks. The guardsmen wear a white leather waistbelt over their coat and the officer has his belt beneath the coat to carry his sword which is mostly concealed underneath the coat skirt. Since World War 2 the Guards did not have the white equipment with folded cape on the back. They have white gloves in this order of dress, but in tunic order they do not. The officer wears a mourning black band around his left arm for the recently deceased King George VI.
