Officer's Sabretache Badge

Mounted officers of the Grenadier Guards wore a plain black leather sabretache with this unassuming gilt badge in the middle. Examples like this are scarce because there were only 9 officers in the regiment who wore a sabretache. The CO, 2nd in command, and the adjutant of each of the 3 battalions. It has Queen Victoria's crown and cypher. Sabretaches were discontinued at the beginning of Edward VII's reign in 1901.
