Drummers, Marching Order c1899

The boy drummer is required to carry his valise high on his back and his rolled greatcoat is attached to the back of his waistbelt. The water-bottle is suspended from a slim strap on his left shoulder and a haversack is slung on his right shoulder. The drum carriage is also over the right shoulder. The rigours of marching with a side drum are mitigated with the help of a white leather leg-protector but this does not seem to be worn when in guard order. The other taller figure plays the bugle and has a white leather pouch on the front right side of his belt for a fife.
