3rd Battalion King's Colour 1936

King Edward VIII reigned for only 11 months, from 20 Jan to 11 Dec 1936. He presented new Colours to the Guards at a parade in Hyde Park on 16 July 1936. This King's Colour of the 3rd Battalion has his cypher under the King's crown. The 2nd and 3rd Battalions had very similar King's Colours except for the pile wavy that issues from the corner of the Union flag in the upper canton of the 3rd Battalion Colour. This is an ancient device that can be seen on the Major's Colour of the 1st Foot Guards 1685.
