Lieut-Colonel Lord Francis Scott DSO


Francis George Montagu Douglas Scott was born on 1 Nov 1879. He was the 8th son of the 6th Duke of Buccleuch and Lady Louisa Jane Hamilton, daughter of the 1st Duke of Abercorn. He fought in the Boer War. He was ADC to the Viceroy of India, Lord Minto, between 1905 and 1911, and married his daughter Lady Eileen Nina Evelyn Sibell Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, on 11 Feb 1915. In the First World War he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded on 31 Oct 1914, awarded the DSO. Although an officer in the Grenadier Guards he was attached to the Irish Guards for most of the war and gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

He was an Unofficial Member of the Executive Council between 1932 and 1944, and was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG) in 1937. In his sixties Lord Scott fought in the Second World War between 1941 and 1945, with East African Forces, and was again mentioned in despatches. His and Lady Louisa's daughters were: Pamela Violet Montagu Douglas Scott born 7 Jul 1916, died 5 Feb 1992. Moyra Eileen Montagu Douglas Scott born 15 Mar 1919, died 4 Feb 2011. Lord Scott died on 26 July 1952 at age 72.
