Sergeant-Major W J Cook


Sergeant-Major W J Cook's photo was published in 'The Regiment' c1898 as the first in a series of Well-Known NCOs. He joined the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards on 16 Sep 1884, and transferred to the Guards Depot at Caterham in Jan 1896, as Drill Sergeant. On 1 May 1897 he transferred to the 3rd Battalion after being promoted to Sergeant-Major in March. The photo shows him as a Drill Sergeant.
