The Northumberland Fusiliers

2nd Battalion Band 1898

The band of the 2nd Battalion playing on St George's Day at Portland. The sergeant-drummer stands in the middle of the circle while the Corps of Drums and band perform. There appear to be around 53 men in the circle. The musicians have pouchbelts which carry the large white pouches on their backs; these are used to keep sheet music. The special band swords can be seen hanging from their waist-belts. The drums are all decorated with red and white roses to celebrate the regimental anniversary.
