The Northumberland Fusiliers

Drummers' Colour Illustration

The Colour carried unofficially by a drummer of the regiment commemorated the capture of the Colours of the French Grenadier Regiment d'Aquitaine at the battle of Wilhelmstahl in 1762. It was carried on a spear-headed staff which used to carry the Regimental Colour in the Indian Mutiny. The size was 42 inches on the staff and 46 inches flying. It had a gold 1-inch fringe and was in the green facing colour of the Northumberland Fusiliers. It is embroidered with St George and the Dragon in the centre, red scrolls edged in gold with the motto above and the title below, and a gold 'V Regt.' straddling the title. A wreath of green laurel with red berries surrounded the centre, and slipped roses with crown was placed in the four corners.
