The Royal Irish Regiment

Officer's Forage Cap c1896

The infantry officer's forage cap was peaked and had gold wire embroidery on the peak. The red cap-band indicated that it was a Royal regiment. The cap badge was embroidered on red backing cloth and sewn on to the cap. On the top there was a central black cord button with surrounding black lace. This style of cap was introduced in 1881.
