Lance-Corporal Frederick Room VC


Lance Corporal Frederick George Room was in charge of the stretcher-bearers when, on 16th Aug 1917 at Frezenberg, Belgium, his company which was holding a line of shell-holes and short trenches, had suffered many casualties. He worked continuously under intense fire, dressing wounds and helping to evacuate casualties. Throughout this period, with complete disregard for his own life, he showed unremitting devotion to his duties. He was born in Ashley, Bristol on 31st May 1895 and served in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish. He died on 19th Jan 1932 in Bristol.
