Officer's Helmet Badge 1891-1901

The helmet was worn by the Royal Scots from 1878 to 1903 in which year it was replaced by the Kilmarnock bonnet. From 1881 to 1891 the officers wore a badge similar to this but the silver scroll below the centre was inscribed THE LOTHIAN REGT. The example shown here is post 1891 and is inscribed THE ROYAL SCOTS. The centre is a thistle encircled by the words NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT, the regimental motto. These are in silver metal on green enamel.
