Lieut D S McGregor VC

On 22nd Oct 1918, at Hoogemolen, Lieutenant McGregor sacrificed his life to get his machine guns into action. Although he was commissioned into the 6th Battalion Royal Scots he was serving with the Machine Gun Corps. His guns were concealed on a limber below the bank of a sunken road. When they attempted to advance they were subjected to heavy fire. The gun teams were sent on a safer route but McGregor lay flat on his limber and was driven forward to a point where the guns could be used from cover. He managed to get the guns into action and the rest of the battalion was able to resume the attack. Unfortunately he was killed while directing the machine-gun fire and his VC was awarded posthumously. David Stuart McGregor was born in Edinburgh on 16th Oct 1895 and buried at Hoogemolen in Belgium.
