Regimental Badge

The cap badge of the South Wales Borderers was the Sphinx of Egypt surrounded by a wreath of immortelles with SWB overlayed at the base. Immortelles are flowers that retain their shape and colour when dead and are used in dried flower arrangements. Queen Victoria honoured the regiment by presenting them with a silver wreath of these flowers and it has been carried ever since at the top of the pike that holds the Queen's Colour. The collar badge of the present regiment, The Royal Regiment of Wales retains the silver wreath but has a Welsh dragon inside.
