Drummer and Bugler c1910

In 1908 the South Wales Borderers acquired a set of expensive silver drums which were paid for by the officers. There were 12 side drums, two tenor drums and a bass drum. The drummer has one of the side drums in this photo taken around 1910. He is also a bugler as can be seen by the cord that is hung from his left shoulder. The tunics of both men are of special pattern having white tape, with red crowns, running up the sleeve on both sides, and around the collar. There are also three lines of this tape on the back seams. The shoulder wings are liberally decorated with this tape and have red and white fringes which have been threaded together and pulled tight. The plaited green cords across the chest have tassels on the left side. Their blue helmets have the brass chin-chain attached to the left side, and hooked up to the top on the right.
