Lieutenant R E Phillips VC


Lieut Phillips was with the 9th Battalion Royal Warwicks in Mesopotamia in January 1917. On the 25th Jan, near Kut, the battalion was attacking the Turkish position under the leadership of Lieut-Col Henderson. When the CO lay badly wounded out in the open, Lieutenant Phillips and one other went out and brought him back under intense fire. Colonel Henderson was an officer of the North Staffordshire regiment, attached to the Warwicks. He also won a VC but died that day.

Robert Edwin Phillips was born at Hill Top, West Bromwich on 11th April 1895 and died in Cornwall on 23rd Sep 1968.
