The Warwickshire Regiment

Lieutenant-Colonel Morey Quayle Jones

Colonel Jones served in the 1st Battalion in the Sudan Expedition in 1897-8. He took over command of the battalion at the Battle of Atbara in April 1898. He was put in command of the 2nd Battalion when he returned to the UK. He is seen here with other officers of the second battalion. Only he and the officer next to him have the medal ribbons for the Sudan. They are all in undress uniform with the early pattern of Sam Browne belt. Directly in front of Jones is the regimental mascot Corporal Bobby an Indian Black Buck Antelope, with the two young drummers who escort him on parade. They wear the undress scarlet frock which does not have shoulder wings like the dress tunic.
