RCMP Drum Major 1960

In the RCMP, the position of drum major was not a rank, but an appointment. The man in the photograph was then-Constable {later Staff Sergeant} J. N. Schrumm. The drum major's badge of appointment , approved in early 1959, was worn on the upper right sleeve until 1963 at which time the position was changed to the lower right sleeve ... Uppermost on the sash was the Queen's Royal Cypher; below which was the Coat of Arms of Canada; the letters R.C.M.P.; the modern RCMP badge; the word Ottawa, followed by the Battle Honours as found on the first RCMP Guidon, which can be seen on the main page menu.
