Colonel A R Chapman, 1903

This is a detail from a group photo of British and Indian officers. Col Chapman wears a patrol jacket which is dark blue with black braid and cords which suspend across the chest in five groups of four cords. They are attached by hooks at either end. The cuff ornament can be seen more clearly on the young officer seated in front of him; it is a Bengal knot traced in black braid. The colonel is the only one in the picture wearing field service cap or Torin cap. Although it appears to be of an all over dark colour, it is in fact yellow on top with black sides and gold braid. The fold in the top is of black cloth (see Officers in Mess Dress and Undress).
