United States of America, Military Order of the Dragon

This medal was awarded by the USA to Captain Robert Low for his services in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. The medal is unusual in its dull gun metal finish with a golden dragon in relief on the obverse. But must unusual is the pin bar at the top of the ribbon which is in the shape of a pagoda. The suspension bar is also unusually shaped and the lettering around the edge on the reverse is in a Chinese style typeface: MILITARY ORDER OF THE DRAGON; CHINA 1900. In the middle of the reverse side is inscribed: CAPT. R.B.LOW No.323.
