23rd Regimental Colour c1890

The facing colour of the 23rd was green and this is reflected in the Regimental Colour. The battle honours are placed in a rather haphazard manner which suggests that the Colour pre-dates the BURMA 1885-87 honour, and that it was added later. The stringed bugle indicates that the 23rd was a light infantry regiment although the title, in the centre, does not include the word 'Light'. The crown is that of Queen Victoria, and the wreath is the usual Union of roses, thistles and shamrocks.
