The Yeomanry

C Squadron, Royal Yeomanry, 1993

This unit is made up of the descendants of the East Kent Mounted Rifles, the West Kent Yeomanry and the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters). They are paraded in front of the TA Centre in Mitcham Road, Croydon in 1993 shortly before the withdrawal of their armoured vehicles and conversion to the light reconnaissance role. At this time the Squadron comprised 5 sabre Troops each with 4 Fox CVR(W), Support Troop with 5 Spartan APCs, Squadron HQ with 2 Sultan ACVs, Samaritan armoured ambulance, Light Aid Detachment and supporting vehicles. After conversion they were equipped with Land Rovers and the Support Troop was disbanded. Other cuts were made and the permanent staff strength reduced.
