The Yeomanry

Medal Awarded to The Nottingham Troop 1802

Lord Newark presented medals to every man in the Troop on 13th May 1802. It is 36 mm in diameter and is in silver for the men and gold for the officers. The reverse side has the Green Dale Oak, a tree of great antiquity in Sherwood Forest. It was so big that a road was driven through it so that it formed an arch 10 feet high by 6 feet wide. The arch, as seen on the medal, has the three words FOI LOI ROI, the motto of the Troop.
