The Yeomanry

Lieutenant c1863

The officer is holding the dark blue shako introduced in 1861 which clearly shows how the black cock feathers curved down in a haphazard way. The jacket is the later pattern with the Austrian knot on the cuff indicating subaltern rank. The gold gimp braid across the chest has the 88 loops instead of the single 8. The pouch-belt is clearly shown here, black Morocco leather with gold wavy lines. The pouch was of black leather with a badge in the middle. The chains and pickers were of silver. The gold cord cap-lines ended in acorns which hung from the neck. The sword and plain sabretache hang from black leather belts, although the men had brown leather waistbelts.
