The Yeomanry

Maxim Gun 1907

The actual date of this photo is unclear but it was published along with other photos dated 1907. The title under the photo says: 'Dundonald Galloping Maxim Mounting, and Dhanpat Rai's Folding Carts, one fitted as an Ambulance'. The sergeant nearest the camera is in a serge frock with pillbox cap. His chevrons have the South Notts Hussars badge just above them. He and other men of the regiment are wearing the white leather pouch-belt with black pouch. These belts were discontinued in the regular cavalry in 1902, along with the pillbox cap. Either the Yeomanry disregarded the order to put aside these items, or the date of the photo is earlier.
