The Yeomanry

Shako Badge 1839-1847

The badge, worn on the black bell-topped shako which was introduced in 1839, is a gilt 12-pointed star with Queen Victoria's cypher and the words SOUTH NOTTS YEOMANRY CAVALRY inscribed on the garter. The badge ceased to be used after 1847 when the new scarlet shako was adopted.
