The Yeomanry

Officer and Charger c1864

In this early photo the uniform that was adopted in 1856 had remained almost unchanged except for the fur busby that replaced the shako in 1863. The plume here looks very minimal which may be because it is an early example. There is a silver coiled cord boss on the front of the busby and the lines wind once around the middle. The blue tunic is slightly shorter than it was when it was first taken into wear. The silver braid on his cuff denotes his rank as a subaltern. He has his sword and sabretache attached to a waistbelt that is worn under the tunic. Another photo of a captain shows the belt worn outside the tunic. The charger has a blue and silver laced shabraque with a black sheepskin on top.
