The Yeomanry

Band 1901

This photograph from the Navy and Army Illustrated of 15 June 1901 was taken in Market Place Warwick at the reception of the 6th Militia Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. The band of the Warwickshire Yeomanry are in dismounted review order, wearing white pouchbelts and large black leather pouches for their sheet music. The busbies are of two types, some with white bags, plumes and caplines, and another type with dark bags, plumes and caplines. The dark colour is said to be red, or scarlet. The caplines may be red but more likely to be yellow which would show up dark in a photo of this period. There is another photo of the band in the Navy and Army Illustrated of 6 July 1901 in which they are returning from Church parade at camp. They are out in front with the padre behind them and the rest of the regiment marching behind him. The bandmaster leads them all and looks like the same man as in the 1903 photo.
