The Yeomanry

Officers 1871

This interesting early photo gives us a glimpse of the aristocracy of North Yorkshire of the 1870s. 'Some of the officers are wearing the undress blue frockcoat that had been used since 1834. 'It had a roll collar and was devoid of lace decoration. 'It was worn over the scarlet waistcoat that had silver lace along the front and bottom edges and many small silver buttons down the front. 'The dress uniform is in evidence, worn either with the scarlet and silver pill-box cap or the dress busby. 'The busby now has the embroidered Princess of Wales feathers on red boss at the front. 'The pill-box cap has the silver embroidered rose on top.'
