The Yeomanry

Sergeant's Uniform c1895

The final form of the dress uniform for other ranks was made up of white cord and 5 rows of white metal buttons. Regulations for sergeants' uniforms had the same white cord but silver lace on the cuff in place of white tape below the cord Austrian knot and silver lace round the collar and the hem of the jacket. This example seem to have the white tape. The rank chevrons are of gold lace with red cloth backing, and embroidered Princess of Wales feathers sewn on the stripes. The pill-box cap is red with white tape cap-band and black leather chin-strap. The waist sash was yellow and white worsted for sergeants, white and red for other ranks, and gold and red for warrant officers. The sleeves have badges for shooting and sword proficiency. On the other sleeve there are stars for length of service, one for every 5 years. The plaited white cords are cap-lines for the busby.
