The Yeomanry

Mounted Officer, 1896

The dress uniform of officers worn in review order. The pelisse is not in evidence here but other paintings of the mounted officers of this period show it slung on the left shoulder. This painting is based on a photo published in the Navy and Army Illustrated and displays the blue and silver uniform set off by the scarlet sabretache and pouch as well as the black and scarlet busby plume, and throat plume on the bridle. His boots are plain polished black Hessian style. In Levee dress these would be replaced by patent leather boots with silver tops and a silver boss on the front.
