R W deY Bateson, Lord Deramore


Sir Robert Wilfred de Yarburgh Bateson was born on 5th Aug 1865. He inherited the title of 3rd Lord Deramore and was commanding officer of the Yorkshire Hussars from 1912 to 1914. He was married twice, first to Lucy Caroline Fife with whom he had one daughter. The photo shows him on 28th Feb 1908, the day of his marriage to Lady Violet Blanche Saltmarshe. It was taken at the Lafayette Studio in New Bond Street, London. He is wearing the blue and silver full dress uniform of the regiment. Their family seat was at Belvoir in County Down but they lived in Yorkshire. He was at one time Lord Lieutenant of East Riding. He died on 1st April 1936.
