NotesThis ship introduced Krupp Cemented armour which allowed a considerable saving in weight (1inch of Krupp armour was equivalent to 2.6inches of iron). At the outbreak of World War I, she was the guardship at St. Vincent. She was sent to Admiral Cradock's squadron but did not reach it in time to join the engagement at Coronel. However, she was then ordered to become the guardship for Port Stanley. Her guns were the first to engage Von Spee's squadron at the battle of the Falkland Islands. In 1915, she was back in action again at the Dardanelles. In 1916, she returned to Chatham to become an accomodation ship there.
