Notes | This ship was the last battleship to have muzzle loading guns and the first to have a secondary battery as well as anti-torpedo guns. She was sent out to the China station in 1885 when the Russian scare was in full flight. She shadowed aThe Russian Cruiser Vladimir Monomakh on her way out. In fact, she sailed into Yokohama harbour with the Russians guns trained on her. In 1889 she was transferred to the East Indies station and took part in the blockade of Zanzibar. Then, she returned to the Mediterranean. She was an unwieldly ship with a reputation as the most unhandy ship ever to fly the white ensign. |
