Private Harris Turner was photographed in the uniform issued to the new regiment in the late summer of 1914. It was based on the British Army khaki service dress but distinguished by the red cloth P.P.C.L.I. shoulder title, the bronze CANADA on the shoulder strap, and the bronze collar and cap badges. The Canadian General Service collar badge can be seen fairly clearly here (see Badges ). The tunic buttons up to the neck in a rather uncomfortable way, and is fastened with 7 brass buttons. There is a small badge above his left pocket where many of the men had medal ribbons for previous military service. |
