Captain’s Mess Kit c1971

The scarlet mess jacket has a stand collar with a false stiff shirt collar attached to the inside. The collar is dark blue with the regimental collar badges in gilt and silver. There is a gold lace edge along the top and front, and thin Russia braid along the bottom edge. The rank of the wearer is shown on the scarlet shoulder straps, following the British example. A few years later, in the mid-seventies, officers’ rank was changed from the British model to gold rings around the cuff. The airborne proficiency badge is sewn to the left breast, and a blue rectangle on the upper sleeve is the US Presidential Citation awarded to the 2nd Battalion PPCLI for their bravery at Kapyong in the Korean War. The regimental facing colour of French grey is worn on the plain fronted waistcoat, and the trousers are dark blue with a red stripe.
