The figure on the left is a sergeant with three gold stripes on each arm and a gold embroidered Maple Leaf above. Above his rank insignia is a shield depicting a ram’s head over the numeral 1, the badge of the 1st Canadian Mechanised Brigade Group. The area of responsibility of 1CMBG is Western Canada, including the Rockies. On his right breast pocket is a badge for Land Force Command; a white shield with a Maple Leaf on crossed swords. He is a parachutist and has medals for UN service in Cyprus and a CD medal for long service and good conduct. The Warrant Officer next to him has similar medals. Both are armed with M-16 rifles. The man on the right is a lance-corporal. Master corporals have a Maple Leaf over the stripes. His medals are for UN service in Cyprus, UN service in Yugoslavia, and NATO (IFOR/SFOR, in Yugoslavia).
