Coat Tail 1853

The coatee, towards the end of its life dispensed with the gold button loops on the false pockets of the tails of the coat. This detail from a catalogue photo shows the plain coat tail with white turn-backs and the ornate embroidered ornament covering the point where the turn-backs meet. It is a laurel spray with a Victorian crown and red cloth oval embroidered with XIX. The whole badge is on a green cloth which forms the edge. These ornaments for a battalion company officer were unique to the 19th Regiment. The other point of interest is the slashed cuff which has four gilt buttons and gold loops.
