Corps of Drums, 2nd Battalion 1929

The 2nd Battalion were stationed at Kasr-el-Nil, Cairo in 1929. This is the Corps of Drums of the 2nd Battalion wearing khaki hot-climate service dress. The large number of drummers indicates that the battalion was at full strength. The CO and another officer sit in the middle and the drum-major, whose title had been restored in 1926, sits next to them. The bass drummer stands behind the CO, wearing a leopard skin apron. Two other drummers wear skins; they are tenor drummers and their instruments are placed either side of the bass drum. There are 10 side drums piled in front, belonging to the men wearing drum carriages. The others are fifers and buglers who have pouches for sheet music and fifes on their waist-belts.
