This is a wonderful satire on an East African territory attempting to stay out of the clutches of European colonial rule. It is highly satirical with withering critiques on aspects of Empire and imperialism in general.

Scoop
This is a story about journalism and East African politics as a correspondent is sent to a fictional East African where he gets the 'scoop' that it is about to be invaded and occupied. Waugh had actually travelled around Abyssinia when it was invaded by the Italians in 1936 and this is a bitter parody of those times.
