Royal Naval Ships at Anchor in Aden in 1864


Here you can see just how busy the port of Aden was. This was taken in 1864 which was still 5 years before the Suez Canal was opened after which Aden became an even busier port. Interestingly, the main pier seems to have been damaged at this time - possibly due to a storm or a collision.
