Bight of Benin Map, 1716

This Dutch map of the Bight of Benin illustrates the complexity of the coastline along the Bight of Benin. It shows safe anchorages as well as European forts and trading posts. This was the richest part of West Africa and the area that received the most attention from Europeans.
