By the 19th Century, mapmakers already had accurate coastal knowledge. The emphasis was now on filling out information on the interiors of the continents and especially in Central Asia. Russian mapmakers were making great strides, so much so that it worried British politicians concerned with India's security. This rivalry for knowledge and influence would help kick off the Great Game.
